Partnerships Make it Possible

Building your community’s future is a shared investment between Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC), business and industry partners, workforce agencies, K-12 school districts and students.

The Work-Based Learning model is trending across the state of Iowa and in our region. Sector Boards formed in the College’s eight-county district are increasing engagement among businesses, students and community members, introducing students to high-demand careers and inviting businesses to engage the students in Work-Based Learning activities.

The illustration shown below highlights the progression of steps in the Work-Based Learning continuum. As the key piece in the Work-Based Learning model, the College and its Career Learning Link Partnership brings business leaders into the discussion. These leaders representing a range of industries – such as agriculture, business, law, healthcare and manufacturing – speak to high school classes, offer tours of their companies and operations, mentor future professionals, provide internships, job shadows and sponsor apprentices through NICC.

This is true partnership in action. For more information on  Work-Based Learning, visit  www.nicc.edu/careerlearninglink.
