It really is a small world.
Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) alumnae Jennifer Zeman and Sarah Mast are both graduates of programs that provided the educational foundation they needed to enter the workforce and build successful business careers.
The two alums now work together, in the same Human Resources office, at Flexsteel Industries’ new location in the Port of Dubuque.
Jennifer, currently the manager of corporate human resources, started at Flexsteel as a secretary to the president in July of 1987, progressed to executive secretary and administrative assistant and was named human resources administrator. Jennifer, a lifelong Dubuquer and 1987 NICC graduate, believes in the important services community colleges provide.
“Individuals should thoroughly investigate all that NICC has to offer and be open-minded to attending a community college versus a four-year college; they should feel confident in allowing NICC to be their first step in their post-high school education,” Jennifer said.
Sarah Mast, of Manchester, is a 2012 graduate of the College’s Administrative Assistant and Associate of Applied Science-Accounting Specialist programs. NICC was a great match for Sarah for several reasons.
“NICC is a perfect way to get an education without the expense of a university, and class sizes are kept low to accommodate more one-on-one attention for students. Instructors and staff at NICC are always helpful and attentive,” Sarah said.
For these two successful
co-workers, two years at NICC provided just the right career-relevant education and training to find rewarding, meaningful work and thrive professionally.
